Nike : Flyweave

The Nike Flyweave is the latest upper developed by the brand with the swoosh. This technology is applied to different models of sports shoes, demonstrating the versatility of this upper, which is the technological evolution of the Flyknit.

The Nike Flyweave draws its inspiration from the textile materials used in aerospace, so this technology was developed with the aim of making this upper as resistant as possible while adapting to the foot's movements in the shoe. Unlike Flyknit, which is made up of knitted threads, Flyweave is made up of threads woven together in a unique way, created by designer Thomas Bell. This intricate weave results in a single piece of upper with no additional seams, and once applied to a pair the Flyweave forms a second skin, allowing the foot complete freedom of movement in the shoe, while providing foot support. This is achieved by varying the tension and thickness of Flyweave according to the specific areas of the shoe where the foot needs support. This innovative upper, inspired by the textile materials used in aerospace, has a longer lifespan than other uppers applied to sports shoes. Flyweave is thus the technology of the future for Nike and Nike Basketball, which via its designer Leo Chang is looking to develop new basketball shoe models incorporating this technology.

The Nike Flyweave is already present on a number of sports shoe models, whether for golf, American soccer, training or basketball. The Air Jordan XX9, worn by Russell Westbrook, Jimmy Butler and Kawhi Leonard, is the first basketball shoe with a Flyweave upper. Nike Flyweave can also be found on Kevin Durant's signature model, the KD8.
