Nike : Nike Air

Nike Air cushioning was the first technology developed by Nike to use air to absorb shock.

The great innovation of the Nike Air was to encapsulate air in small pockets and place them in the sole of the sneaker to attenuate the impact of each stride. A revolution at the time, both in terms of the technical nature of the cushioning and, above all, its shock-absorbing capacity!

Initially used on the Nike Air Tailwind, a running sneaker, the Nike Air was adapted to basketball in the early 80s, notably on the legendary Nike Air Force 1 and later on the Nike Air Jordan 1.

Moreover, it's important to note that Nike Air technology was so visionary and ahead of its time that, even 38 years after its first release, it remains one of the benchmarks in cushioning. The Americans call this a "game changer", i.e. a novelty that disrupts the sector to which it applies, and in the case of Nike Air cushioning, this is no euphemism: this technology has totally changed the way cushioning is perceived in sport. After Nike Air, the aim was no longer to reduce impact, but to absorb it completely.
